Nestled within the serene grounds of a stunning Russian Orthodox Monastery in Harper Woods, The Royal Eagle Fine Dining offers an unparalleled European culinary journey that marries elegance, tradition, and rich flavors. Specializing in authentic European cuisine with Russian influences, this gem crafts an atmosphere that transports you back to pre-Revolutionary Russia, immersing diners in a world where history, spirituality, and gastronomy converge.
The menu here is a thoughtful blend of classic and refined dishes, each plated with impeccable artistry and bursting with depth. Starters like the Champagne-Poached Prawns arrive delicately perched on a bed of mixed microgreens, enriched by a homemade vodka-infused horseradish cocktail sauce that instantly awakens your palate. For something heartier, the Venison Sausage, enhanced with a red wine demiglace and accented by aged balsamic glaze and cranberry walnut chutney, offers a tantalizing balance of savory and sweet nuances.
Salads gently contrast textures and tastes—imagine the Apple Bisque Salad's subtle fusion of a savory bisque with crisp Granny Smith apples, adorned with candied pecans and a dollop of crème fraîche, or the Organic Baby Greens Salad vibrant with sun-dried tomatoes, cucumber, and delicate herb croutons, perfectly complemented by house-made vinaigrettes.
For main courses, the offerings showcase culinary craftsmanship and deep respect for traditional flavors. The Salmon Kulibiaka, exquisitely wrapped in golden puff pastry, bursts with tender Alaskan salmon, garlic-infused crème fraîche, fresh dill, and scallions, elegantly paired with a luscious blue cheese crème sauce, butter-mashed potatoes, and shallots-touched Brussels sprouts. The iconic Beef Wellington beckons with its flaky crust enveloping juicy, tender beef that melts in your mouth, while the Rack of Lamb stands as a succulent testament to rich, hearty European fare.
Desserts and specialty teas close the experience with a flourish—the Bleu Cheese Mousse intrigues the palate, while the Baklava offers a sweet, flaky finish. The Russian Tea Sandwiches and fragrant Hibiscus Red Tea provide a uniquely comforting ritual, an afternoon delight that recalls a timeless tradition that customers rave about. Guests love bringing their own bottle of wine (BYOB policy), encouraging a personalized, intimate dining experience.
Beyond the plate, The Royal Eagle Fine Dining creates an atmosphere that is both peaceful and historically evocative. Antique samovars, a wax cylinder phonograph, and detailed Russian tea glass holders (podstakanniki) add layers of authenticity and charm. Whether dining indoors amidst these historic treasures or enjoying the tranquil patio, the ambiance is serene and deeply memorable—perfect for special occasions like Valentine’s Day or birthdays, as delighted patrons have shared.
Customer voices speak volumes about the warmth of the service and the unforgettable culinary craftsmanship. From heartfelt praise about gluten-free accommodations that made a patron feel cared for to descriptions of the graceful gardens and spiritual setting, every visit here feels like a rare, cherished experience. One guest aptly sums it up: “The food was so flavorful. Service was good. Well worth the price. I'll be back.” Another exclaims, “I wish there were 6 stars! This place is fabulous!”

Lovely place inside and out. The Valentine's dinner was absolutely phenomenal. The food was so flavorful. Service was good. Well worth the price. I'll be back
I wish there were 6 stars! This place is fabulous! The atmosphere is pre-Revolutionary Russia, the hospitality is unexcelled, the menu is extraordinary: beef stroganoff, chicken kiev, duck confit, hassenpfeffer, salmon entrees....and the dessert...do not leave until you have the Russian Napolean. And the restaurant is set on the grounds of a gorgeous Russian Orthodox Monastery. Serene, peaceful, wonderful place to have a superior gourmet meal.
I can't describe the serenity of the gardens. It must be experienced. No matter your beliefs, you will feel the spirituality of this place. The food is phenomenal! I have Celiac's and the chef made me a special plate in place of the sandwiches and a dessert like I have never experienced in my life.
Our return visit after many years for afternoon tea showed a high level of service, food quality and truly unique atmosphere. Beautiful dining and patio areas. Efficient and knowledgeable server. Russian tea glass holders, podstakanniki, are used and are unique and detailed. There are many historical items around the dining room including a wax cylinder phonograph, many antique samovars and a gem of an unfinished portrait of I think Czar Nicholas II in the side room off the main dining room. A walk of the gardens and visit to the chapel are a must. Many have said it, but this is truly such a jewel in the unassuming neighborhood.
The food was very good, and it was unique dining experience. I went for the tea luncheon and didn't realize they preferred reservations. But the staff were very nice and found a table for me and my friend.
I am beyond delighted with the delicious and beautiful vegan food at a Christmas tea at Royal Eagle which is on the grounds of St. Sabbas Orthodox Monastary. The napkins, which I loved, were folded by the monks. There is a requirement for modest dress as it is a monastary.
Went to High Tea. Fantastic. I will go back. The food was excellent, soup, finger sandwiches a main course, and pastries. We had a wonderful time. 2nd time, Dinner, Absolutely fantastic. Perogies and Schnitzel!!
I had tea in the garden. The property is beautiful. The chuch bells rang, the flowers were blooming, and the service was good. It was a wonderful afternoon visit. The food was tasty. Compared to other teas I have had the menu was unique. The roasted chicken was good. I wish the scones were hot. The server did a wonderful job managing all of the tables alone.
